The Howells Public Library contains 9,200 items, with an average monthly checkout of 450 items. The library staff and board attend area meetings and activities to stay abreast of changes in library services. Library hours are:
Monday – 2 to 6:30 pm
Wednesday – 9 am to 2 pm and 4 to 9 pm
Friday – 2 to 5:30 pm
Saturday – 9 am to Noon
The library has equipment such as a microfilm reader/printer with the Howells Journal archives. We also have hot and cold laminators, a colored copier, and a FAX machine. The library provides free Wi-Fi, has eight computers, and four tablets for public use at the library. The library has a projector with computer connections. A large screen is also available for public use. The library also offers Overdrive and has a large collection of DVDs.
The library staff is Director Vickie Vacha and assistant Paula Tichota. Board members and community members volunteer their services when needed.
We offer a summer reading program for children aged pre-k through 6th grade. You may register your children by calling the library.
School art is displayed during the school year on a large bulletin board purchased by the library foundation. Patrons may also display their collections or crafts in a locked display case.
The Howells Public Library is a member of the Colfax County Library Association.
